Do you enjoy knitting in urban environment? Great! Join us!
We are looking for people who enjoy knitting and want to knit and display their work in urban environment.
On the 18th August as part of a consultation event we will be engaging our neighbours in conversation about our ideas for improving Great Suffolk Street, Bankside, London SE1. We are inviting knitters to join us on the day and knit and help get people involved!
The project is part of Bankside Urban Forest, a partnership initiative to improve the public spaces of Bankside. It’s partners include Southwark Council, Better Bankside, Tate Modern, The Architecture Foundation and Design for London.
We would like you to join us between 12 noon and 8pm for as much time as you wish and knit in public space. Your knitted i.e. fruit, door handle cover, bike rack cover etc will be exhibited alongside the street and photographed. The idea is that you can help us animate the street through knitting, by using the street as inspiration. We will upload your work on the website and credit it.
Your work will help us bring more life to the street and inform the consultation process. Your work will be documented on the Bankside Urban Forest website.
Date: 18th August 2011
Times: 12 noon to 8pm – to suit your availability.
No fee, but we will provide the wool (or if you have wool you no longer need you can use that too), places to sit and refreshments on the day.
What you will get out of it:
- It is going to be fun!
- Opportunity to use your skills on a live design project
- Opportunity to creatively engage with residents, workers and visitors to Bankside
- You will meet Bankside Urban Forest design team
- Your work will be featured and credited on Bankside Urban Forest website and other media platforms.
