Here are some of my favourite Yarn Haunts:
Sosusie Yarns – Archway Market N19 – Saturday’s 10-5 (Tube – Archway) Beautiful unusual yarns inc Fyberspates, Rosarios. Selection of needles and patterns. Lovely lady, please give her your support!
Liberty of London – Great Marlborough St W1 (Tube – Oxford Circus) Full range of Rowan yarns and books. Haberdashery and beautiful fabrics. Very helpful section manager and staff. Twice yearly sales. Shame they don’t stock other yarn brands. The most exquisite shop in the whole wide world. I could spend all day in there!
John Lewis – Oxford St W1 – Full range of Rowan as well as Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding, Noro, Mirasol, Gedifra, Arucania, Regia and a large range of ‘value’ yarns. Huge haberdashery/craft and fabric section. Again, great bargains to be had in the sales.
All the Fun of The Fair – Kingly Court W1 (Off Carnaby St) – Quirky little yarn/haberdashery/gift store. Large selection of unusual yarns, especially sock yarns. Stockists of Lantern Moon, Brittany and Knitpro needles. Friendly and helpful owner and staff. Lessons available.
Selby’s – Holloway Road N7 (Tube – Holloway Rd or Finsbury Park) Local department store with haberdashery section on 1st floor. Small range of Debbie Bliss and Wendy Yarns. Huge range of cheap acrylic/acrylic mix value yarns at crazily cheap prices. Basic selection of needles and patterns.
Handweaver’s Studio & Gallery – Seven Sister’s Rd N7 (Tube – Holloway Rd or Finsbury Park) More focused towards weaving and spinning but some yarns suitable for knitting. Interesting shop/studio/gallery where you can browse the yarn and book selection and also take spinning and weaving classes. Large selection of vibrantly coloured Merino tops for spinning. Also sells spinning wheels, looms and drop spindles.
Lenarow Wools and Crafts – Blackstock Rd N4 (Tube – Finsbury Park or Highbury & Islington) Aladdin’s cave of yarn and haberdashery. Huge stock of Rowan, Patons, Wendy as well as value yarns and patterns. Crowded shop with wheeled display stands that they push backwards and forwards as you browse the shop. Their overly-attentive service can be offputting so just ignore them. Massive selection of buttons, beads, sewing threads, craft supplies. It really is worth a visit, and great for finding discontinued Rowan yarns.
